Memory Walk at Croxteth Hall and Park

Croxteth Hall was built around 1575 and is situated in the Croxteth area of Liverpool.  It boasts a large park area and is home to a real working Home Farm.  it also has a Victorian Walled Garden and a 500 acre nature reserve.

We were here today to do the Memory Walk for Alzheimer's and Dementia.  There were 2 walks available, one at 2k and one at 8k.  We opted for the 2k given that the 8k takes you off road and given the weather all day yesterday and briefly today, we figured it wouldn’t be that firm underfoot.  The 2k walk stuck to the footpaths for the most part, although there was a particularly muddy spot going through a section of trees but we came out of this relatively unscathed.

When I talk about we, I am referring to myself and my parents who all walked together, we were walking in memory of my grandma Anne, my dad’s mother who passed away in  2005. The date of the walk fell on what would have been her 89th birthday so it felt right we should walk today for her.  She did suffer with dementia towards the end of her life so it felt like we were doing something positive in her memory that meant something to us as a family.

The weather was pleasant enough although the rain was never too far away and at one point we did have to put the brolly up but this was just before the walk started so it didn’t dampen our spirit too much and didn’t last for too long. The sun tried to poke it's head out at intervals during the walk as well.

All in all, we had a good morning and raised some money for a good cause.

  1. It sounds like a lovely place to have done a walk! I think that was a great way to honour her memory sweetie.
